Pokemon Yellow

Pokemon Yellow can't really be called a sequel to Red and Blue, but it does add to the gaming experience of pokemon. Pokemon Yellow is basically the same game as Red and Blue, but has quite a number of new features that separates it from those version.

Instead of choosing from three beginning pokemon, Professor Oak captures an attacking Pikachu and gives it to you, while your rival receives an Eevee. Unlike in Red and Blue, where you could easily win the game with only one or two pokemon, starting with Pikachu really forces you to create strategies and build up a team of varying pokemon.

Just for fun, your Pikachu (who refuses to stay in its pokeball and chooses to follow you instead) will express its emotions as you travel the world. Turning and talking to it, you'll see a variety of expressions and hear new sound bytes. Owners of the Pocket Pikachu will recognize some of them. See how many expressions you can find!

The game has been Game Boy Color enhanced, although it is a very poor use of the color mode in my opinion. The pokedex has been completely been redone and the pokemon images made to look more like the real thing. You'll also discover that Pikachu talks!

There are other new plot twists as well. Jesse and James from the TV show make a few appearances. Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle can all be acquired in the game. Pokemon learn attacks at different levels and can be found in different areas. You can't find all 150 pokemon though, so you'll have to trade with a Red or Blue game pak to catch 'em all.

The new features of Pokemon Yellow will enhance the gameplay value and is perfect for anyone just getting in on the pokemon craze. Also, fans of the TV show should enjoy it, as well as hardcore trainers. And finally, Pokemon Yellow will surely be a treat for Pikachu fans!
