Gold/Silver FAQ

Q. Is another expansion to Red/Blue/Yellow?

A. No, it is an entirely new game! There are a set of new characters, new pokemon, new towns, new badges, and more!

Q. When will these be released in the US?

A. It's current release date is September 16, 2000, although this is subject to change. But so far, release dates have been pretty solid, so this one should be too :)

Q. How many new pokemon will there be?

A. There are 100 new pokemon, which makes 251 in all! And of course, there is the posibility of hidden pokemon... In addition to this, there are two new element-types: metal and evil. Check a few of them out here.

Q. Will it be for Game Boy Color?

A. Of course! But I believe that it will be backwards compatible with regular Game Boy. The GBC graphics are awesome though.

Q. What are the differences from the original game, in terms of gameplay?

A. Well, there are quite a few.

  • The plot is a little bit different: this time, you are trying to join the Orange League.

  • Your rival is a girl (at least she looks like one).

  • Your items are all stored in different pockets of your backpack, rather than being on one plain menu.

  • You have a cellphone to contact main characters, too, such as the hero's mom and Professor Oak.

  • Pokemon you capture will now have a specified gender and you are able to breed them! Now you can create your own mutated breeds!

  • The will be day and night in the game, that affect what pokemon you'll run into in the wild.

  • Our hero will be able to travel on a skateboard.

  • The menus are improved and easier to navigate around.

    Q. Can I trade pokemon from Gold/Silver to Red/Blue/Yellow?

    A. Well, yes, but Red/Blue/Yellow won't support any pokemon above #150. Only the original 150 pokemon will work in R/B/Y.
